The following is one of ten books we wrote this year, this one dedicated to understanding the evolution of volition or choice -- from before we had choice to the modern day -- explaining how our decisions are made for us based on our perceived access to Maslowian resources.
Where when we perceive we have access to all of the resources we need, then we are happy. And when we perceive that we don't have access to all of the resources we need, or have too much access to resources we don't need, then we are unhappy.
The book argues that happiness and unhappiness are critically a perception of access to Maslowian resources.
